I don't post much anymore but read this board a lot for the advice. I need to vent a bit. I am trying to freelance from home after being laid off my job last summer. I am sooooo frustrated and angry that I can't get clients to pay ME. Of sure, everyone else insists I pay them right on time or there are all kinds of consequences but when it's me that is owed money I have to call and email almost everyday to find out when these big companies will cut a check and send it to me. They put me off week after week or sometimes don't even respond to my calls and emails. It is infuriating. I always eventually have gotten paid but it is such a huge hassle and I end up getting so pissed that it hurts future relationships. I am in no position to say I won't work for them anymore because I need the work. It also amazes me how these same people think it is perfectly all right to expect a ton of up front work (again with no pay) on the vague promise that eventually I will get a contract. This too can drag on for months. I really don't know what to do. If someone has had a similar problem and solved it please let me know. Right now I am owed $3,500 plus close to $10K in future work.

Have a lawyer draw up a simple contract. When you bid on job and they accept the bid have them
