Supplementing income working from home?
| Mon, 08-18-2008 - 10:59pm |
Just curious if anyone is working from home supplementing their income with the prices of everything going up adnd up?
I am struggling to get out of debt but each time I dig myself out of a hole just a little, a week later I fall down another hole :)
I have had some success working online at my own pace and when I can. The pay is not much, about $300 in 5 months, but it certainly helps with gas, bills, etc.
Just wondering what other people are doing to try to earn some extra money !

I started freelance writing earlier this year. It's a strange story as to how it came to be, but I woke up one Sunday morning knowing that it was what I wanted to do. I spent the afternoon chasing jobs and leads, and that first week I made $680. Since then, I've averaged $1500-$2000 a month, and I'm turning some work down. (I am a SAHM to five, with three of them school-aged and homeschooling. There's just no time to do it all!)
In addition to work-for-hire contract projects (where I sell the work and the buyer owns and retains all rights), I've been published six times nationally. I've also picked up a regular spot in a national magazine -- my articles appear in The Horse Resource in full color on glossy pages! It's not really a column, but the agreement is that I'll provide a piece each month for their use.
My first two articles were sold without a single edit! Dollar Stretcher has purchased three of my articles, with one already appearing in their print edition and the other two soon to follow. Here are the online archive links to two of them:

The money is great, and it takes some of the pressure off of DH since his income was the only one to support our family of seven. We were making it, but now it's much easier and our dream of building our home feels closer than ever!

That's terrific, Sarah!
Sure, no problem! They accept articles for online-only publication (which they do NOT pay for) and for their print edition (which they will buy rights to, send you a check, and then archive online). When you submit to them, you need to put "hard copy submission" in the subject of your email to be considered for the print edition -- and payment, of course!
Here's the link to their writer's guidelines, where you'll find everything you need to know.

I went to crashcrate.com....do you really make money with them? What's the secret? I've tried stuff like this before and you just end up going around in circles! I tried a survey, completed it, was expecting $3 and they said I didn't qualify for it with the answers I gave.
How do you make money off this? Any advice?
thanks!
Thanks very much, Sarah.
