Go to your company's insurance person and get them on board to help you out. Sometimes they can put presure on the insurance company.

Submit it to your insurance company. When they kick is back and send you an EOB (Explaination of Benefits) showing that coverage is denied, you can file an appeal. In the appeal you can outline the circumstances surrounding the out of network charge and the fact that is was classified as an emergency.

This is an option. They can still deny it, but it is worth a shot.

If you are left with a balance, the hospital should be willing to take whatever you can send them as payment.

If this is an employer provided policy, go to the insurance liaison in the HR department.

You can also directly contact the plastic surgeon and explain the situation. He may well be able to offer you a discount.

I am paying the hospital for 2 different bills now - I send them $25.00 a month on one bill and $20.00 a month on another.
