I would not use a debit card for online purchases. I have a cc with a $1,000.00 limit that is from my credit union. I can transfer money out of my checking account to that credit card when I make online purchases. The low limit help me from "going crazy" as it is the only cc I have and I keep it at a $0 balance so I don't have cc debt accumulate. I got out of debt years ago and don't want to go back. But I do make online purchases from time to time and don't feel comfortable using my debit card.

I use my debit card to make purchases online.

I make sure I only order from reputable places and that *I* type in their address vs following a link from somewhere else. For example, I am on Old Navy's mailing list, I NEVER click a link in the email to go to their website if I'm going to use my card to order. I put in their website address. Just to be sure I'm not linking through another website (and that the website I am at is actually their website).

You just have to be careful. Make sure the little lock icon shows up and you don't get a security warning.

I don't know what interest rate you are paying or if it is a deal

but if you put that amount as a new purchase on a 3.9 it is going to sitting there 3 or 4 years collecting 18% before a cent touches it. 69.00 could easily turn into 500.00 Go get yourself a pay pal account or a pay pal credit card.

and use that

www.paypal.com

you connect the paypal with a checking account use it just like a debt card except you are a little protected. And you can also apply for a paypal credit card just like a real visa for 1000.00 dollar

Go and check it out everyone that does ebay and a lot of other things off the net uses paypal

Paypal is great, and I admit, I use it occasionally myself. But from my experience (I work for a bank) Paypal leads the list in fraud. We've had more customers have their bank accounts compromised and cleaned out from paypal hackers than any other method. I only use it for small purchases myself anymore, and always keep my account with them at 0.

I would put my debit card number out there before I'd do PayPal. I've heard WAY too many BAD stories about Paypal accounts being compromised, fraudulant emails where people obtain your information, etc.

Almost ALL banks have protection on their debit cards -- just like credit cards do.
