Now what?

I will give you some backstory: I've got a sibling that's in a huge amount of debt. He won't say how much debt is accrueed but I know it's a pretty sizable sum.

We also own a home together. Did I purchase it with him? No. Knowing his past history, no way I'd be that stupid (the home came to us from a great great uncle that passed on. It's an older home no great shakes).

Yesterday Sibling drops the bombshell on me that he hasn't got the money for the quarterly property taxes. How did I find out? Only because I asked for the money. Blimey, when was he planning on telling me, anyway?

To top this off, I recently lost my job.

There's no way I can buy him out, considering the position that I am in now (the company was on shaky financial ground for a long time and that is why I made no real long term plans that would affect me monetarily -- when I found out what the company's financial story was, I started looking for a job; nothing panned out).

How effen inconsiderate of him.

Then he says, "you pay your half the taxes; I will go down and pay my half when I get the money." HUH? I have told him repeatedly that there is no way the municipal taxes are

I would make him sign a promissory note for all the money you are fronting for him and record it against the property.

Don't have any advice just wanted to say I wish you the best. You sound like a good person in a crappy situation.
