Hi everyone,

We owe two months for our cable. (September's payment and October's payment which is due on the 24th.) Money is tight.

My DD woke up around 3a.m. she couldn't fall asleep. I layed with her in her bed. (I know bad idea) and we were watching tv. Around 4am. it goes off. Well guess what? We don't have any credit cards. They all have been closed. My husband gets paid of Friday. So I called them at 4am. and gave them our debit card to pay September's payment. They immediately turned it back on. Now...I'm worried what check will bounce if it's cashed before friday.

Went back upstairs....my DD was fast asleep.

First off, don't beat yourself up. What's done is done.

Time to think about maybe cancelling cable for a few months? If you have young kids like mine I'm sure they will miss their TV but if you are like us - you probably have a ton of Disney movies or VHS tapes that have never been worn. If money is that tight - cable is not a necessity like electricity. It's a bummer but true.

We have basic only (free with internet) and I don't think that's hooked up.

Thanks Robyn,

We've never been in a situation like this.

Thanks beepsmomx2,

Not only the kids. But I record my soap opera, General Hospital and Desperate Housewives. It's the only way I get to watch it. My husband likes watching his sports.

We do have alot of movies.

Hugs to you. That's really tough. Two thoughts: it reminded me of a girl I grew up with who was only allowed to watch one half hour of tv per week as a child. She grew up to be really successful....so not getting tv can be good for kids. And two, when I no longer had cable a woman at my work would record er for me on a vhs tape and I got to watch it that way. Another thought is you can get a lot of movies free at the local library. Hugs to you.

I have been through similar scenarios, but came to love anything free. If you're lucky, your local library will have tons of videos and friends may tape shows for you. You don't have to say you can't afford cable anymore. It's quite socially acceptable to say, "We don't watch TV".

Since our kids grew up without TV, but have enjoyed good quality movies, they are very artistic, creative, theatrical, and musical. They are also exceptional problem-solvers and curious about the world we live in.

I wish I had HGTV, but I spend my time far more wisely without it.
