It was easy to ignore when we had money, but now that we're out of money it's really hard to not spend money we don't have. We were spending more than we were making, but we've come close to hitting bottom and now we CAN'T spend money we don't have. It's quite an adjustment, but one we NEED to make. Right now I'm just hoping we have enough milk to last us until Friday (payday). I really think I need to get a PT job. I'm a SAHM, but there are enough days that DH is off that I think I could definitely make it work. If I make, say, $150 a week that's a pretty decent Christmas. Even if it doesn't accomplish anything else, it will ensure that we don't add to our debt.

I hear you! I am in that spot now! I realize I have certain "triggers" and am trying my best not to give in! I've done a little more damage this month then I would have liked, but today is payday and I'm focusing on starting over again!

As for the PT job, I think its a great idea if you can swing it! It would help with the cash flow, but it may also be nice for you to get out of the house! This is a great time to be hired by retailers for the holiday season, so you can give it a try, see how it goes and as you said, if nothing else, you won't add further to your debt!

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I was thinking retail because it will get me out of the house, which I desperately need sometimes with 3 kids, I'll be able to spend time with adults, it will more than pay for Christmas if I'm careful not to blow the money elsewhere, if I work somewhere I like to shop, I can get a discount (as long as I'm careful not to spend my whole paycheck there) and I can get more recent references for when I'm ready to get a "real" job.

If I were you I would just buy each of the children one or two nice gifts for Christmas believe me they never play with more then that. Then I would open up each of them a saving account with say 50.00 in it and one for the main family account. That way they will have money for their first car or college or something important and you will have a start on a Efund.

I work a night inventory job. EVERY time I am scanning something at midnight I do stop and think, "I am doing this for my famil and for financial stability" and it helps me get through.

Finding something retail sounds like a smart move right now. Good luck.
