Starting the Journey

This was the week when I finally realized that burying my head in the sand about my debt was never going to solve my chronic debt problems.

I know you say luck has nothing to do with it, but I'll say good luck anyways! You can do this, it just takes hard work.

And don't worry about saying no to your children. It won't kill them and will help them learn the value of money. That is an important lesson to teach, otherwise they will follow in your footsteps. Your kids love you for you, not for what you can give!

Keep us updated!

If you want post your budget and your bills. The ladies can look at it and you ideas where to cut to get more money to put on the debt beside the normal monthly payment.

I'm trying to make a ticker myself and no mater how many times I try to do it, it won't work.

Yes it will, and if you're up for it, you can do it!

DH and I did it not by cutting expenses (we were already living frugally) but by him getting a weekend job (he's a SAHD, I'm the breadwinner) for a couple of years, and by me changing careers to a higher paying job. Luck did play a part in it - I was lucky enough to work for a company that gave me the opportunity to do it, and for once in my life, I was in the right place at the right time. But mostly it was hard work and discipline from both me and DH.

We had a five-year plan to eliminate our debt and paid off over $100,000 in less than four years. You can do it, too!

You can DO IT. It's hard and its a daily struggle. Yesterday my son was begging for Halloween stickers at Target. I told him NO that we had come to look at the Halloween decorations (we needed to get out of the house but we didn't have $$ to buy anything.) It was hard to tell him NO but I had to do it. I felt like a better mom too because of it. He needs to realize (he's 5) that he can't have everything. That's life and its a sad lesson to learn but a realistic one.

Good luck to you. Once you get started, you will love the feeling of being in control of the money and debt. Also, once you start, you may find that the debt goes down faster than you think. Stay focused and check the boards regularly. Even if you don't have time to post, take a quick read to keep you mindful of your goals. Ask for encouragement when you need it.
