Yes they finally are starting to say Depression and not Recession on TV. I am always watching On the Money on CNN and also the show after it with that guy named Donnie (can not remember his last name)

I didn't see it night before last but it seems Cramer was on as a guest and that is what started this Depression talk. Cramer is saying that the worse has not come yet.

We are not even technically in a recession. I think that these programs are just contributing to the mostly unjustified panic that the media has been making worse over the last three months. I find it amusing to see commercials that prey on "our national concern" over ever growing fuel prices -- I filled up with gas for $2.65/gallon today, the lowest it has been since ??? awhile.

Ditto the PP. The economy may be in a downturn and sharp correction, but it hasn't met the literal definition of recession yet, and it's nowhere near a depression.

But whipping out that D word is going to keep a lot of panicky people glued to CNBC to find out what they're saying. And screaming-banshee Jim Cramer is a ratings wh*re who will say and do anything to stay relevant, and statements like his only make everything worse. People actually listen to him and then panic, which makes his statements a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

There was a really great article in Newsweek about 2 weeks ago about this.

I agree. And not to start any kind of political debate but CNN isn't known for it's objectivity. I think it's worse than the National Enquirer frankly. I do think the economy is hurting but the media is only fueling the fire and should just shut up about it or at least report only the facts as they are and not speculation. I think the poor economy talk will lessen after the election, IMHO. It'll turn into "hope" at least on the CNN channel. I do not like CNN. ;)

I agree. The media does nothing but skew things to suit their political agenda and cause undue panic. Just a few weeks ago, we had a gas shortage where I am b/c everybody freaked out and filled up their tanks even if they were mostly full. I had no gas in my car for a couple of days b/c of it. I wouldn't believe everything you hear on tv or read, as far as reporters go. The best thing to do is study the market and understand basic economics. And regardless of recession or not, being in debt is still being in debt. It wouldn't make it better if the economy was in tip-top shape.

That is why it's important for us to all get off this board so they can close it down! =)

I have to agree with previous posters - everytime you hear or read the news, its just panic, panic, panic.
