Getting DS baptized

I'm really kicking myself now. We intended to have DS baptized months ago, but we put it off. We want to get it done before he gets any older, but that involves a lot of expenses. There's the traditional outfit and the lunch afterward. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, but we want our family to be there for it and that means spending some money we don't have. I need to figure out how to do it without adding to our debt. And then there's Christmas. That's an entirely different subject. This time of year is expensive enough without adding an expense that we should have dealt with when we still had some money. :(

Your baby looks beautiful! And it's not a dress, it's a "gown" -- for both boys and girls. I wish I had had a family heirloom like that for my kids. My son was baptised little white knit shorts and a matching light blue and white striped knit shirt. I don't even remember what my daughter wore three years later! The important thing is the baptism itself, not what is worn. Best wishes!

HI there has to be some ways of cutting the expense down and making it nice. I bought my childs baptism outfit at sears it was white silk and gorgeous for 30 dollars or so, the pastor even asked if it was a family heirloom lol. Also I never had a lunch afterwards I always just had a little get together at my house with a cake an ice cream. If you want a lunch coud maybe someone in the family host it for you like parents or Godparents.

I agree, God doesn't care what you wear.

But... it's a gown and boys and girls alike wear them.

Like I said, you can't see the detail in the picture very well, but it's very frilly. It's not the fact that it's a gown that DH has a problem with it's the fact that it's lacy and frilly. I wish I had a better picture of it. I love it and would love to use it again, but it really is more of a dress than a gown. If the style were simpler, I don't think he would have an issue with it. I tried to convince him that he should be used to it since he's Catholic, but that didn't fly. LOL. We were looking around today and I found an outfit that I think I like at Babies R Us. It was about $45, but they often have coupons for 20% off, so if I can find one, that would bring it down to $36, so not too bad. I want to try it on DS before I buy it but he was asleep in his carseat and I didn't want to wake him, so we'll have to go back.
