Question for my American friends

I understand that Thanksgiving is November 27 this year. I have also been told that there are crazy after Thanksgiving sales that happen in the US. Is this correct? If so, how long do these sales last? Is it a one day thing or a weekend thing? The reason I ask is because I am going down to the States November 29 for the weekend. BF and I are going to a football game on Sunday, but that means Shopping on Saturday!!! I am hoping to get a good chunk of

There are big sales throughout the weekend but the really deep discounts happen early Friday morning (aka Black Friday). There will be websites popping up soon that, much to the retailers chagrin, will have their ads on them and you'll be able to see what is on sale for the full weekend. Just do a web search for Black Friday in a week or 2 and there will be a few. There are good sales just not crazy cheap tvs, electronics, etc. Any other year I'd say be prepared for crowds that weekend but I have a sneaking hunch people are going to be sitting on their money until closer to the holiday this year.
Coupons are generally for food items at the grocery store. I don't personally use them much because I don't use a ton of prepared foods and things that are usually on coupons but I know there are some ladies on here that do have a lot of success so they might chime in here. One exception to that is that Borders Books often has a discount and I'm sure they will that weekend. You'll need to join their rewards club (free) and they will email you coupons for things like 30% off one item w/ a $10 purchase (this weekend's coupon). Bed Bath and Beyond (home items) also almost always have coupons around for 20% off a regular priced item but I don't know if you can get those by email. Mine come in the snail mail. If one of your American folks you are going to see would be willing to pick you up a TG day newspaper, all the ads and stuff like that are in that one.

I live in Boston, so there are big department stores in the area like Macy's and Filene's, and Lord and Taylor that have sales 25%-50% off, maybe more.
When in Boston we always hit
Around where I live the stores open it seems earilier each year. So what my husband and I would do is rent movies and stay up all night Thanksgiving Then fix coffee and a light breakfast put it in a picnic basket and start out with our adds from Thanksgiving papers about 4.00 am. Hit Walmart first then Kmart and Target If Walmart has the same sales as Kmart or Target we would skip Walmart Lines are to long.
Then by 11.00 am we are finished and we go home and go to bed. Lots of fun
