Our Christmas tradition with DH's family has basically come to what I call the "annual exchange of gift cards".

My thoughts on this particular subject is "When in Rome..."

If this is the tradition of your DH's family, why would you want to disrupt their whole thing?

All my best,

I have to agree with Danni's post.

My DH's family does this...and I call it the gift card swap.

Maybe you should get your husband and his family to read my posting. The way these stores are going bankrupt his family may not get nothing at all for Christmas if the gift card is not honored. Maybe you should

What about "suggesting" that the adults do a grab bag (and give a gift card as a gift) and then you all just buy for the kids? sounds like you got a lot of adults in play here and seriously - gift card passing is just silly. OR I would be asking for gas or grocery gift cards if that were me. Make it clear you NEED to save money b/c you are spending it passing along a gift card for the Gap.

Thanks everyone, for your opinions and suggestions!

I just want to clarify that this gift card thing is not some longstanding tradition that existed before I joined the family...I would never try to change something like that.
