Ok I will play.

Progress for what little we make a month and all our medical bills (200.00 a month.) I don't think I have done so bad. I wanted to be down to 19,500.00 this month going in but

1. I feel good that I have not ADDED to my debt. But depressed that now I've made a great effort to pay it down obstacles have gotten in my way and I haven't seen the debt total reduce as much as I would like.

2. I pay bills twice a month - on Payday Fridays. Second paycheck of the month is the mortgage check and a few others. First paycheck is car payments, credit cards, etc. I pay bills by check. I am old fashioned that way. Bills are ALWAYS on time. I try to pay our car payments a month early so if money is tight I can "skip" the payment and the next one is always on time. Otherwise, all bills are always current.

3. Our credit card. I HATE HATE HATE it. The day I'm done with that payment I'm gonna drink a whole bottle of vodka in celebration!

4. If all debts were paid I would just be proud. Nothing but proud of my and my DH's hard work.

5. Things we can't "do" because of debt. I don't know. We have a great life, happy healthy kids and family. Do we go on vacations? No. Do we eat the most expensive foods? No. Do we have each other, yes. And that's what matters.

Good post. Food for thought for all of us.

Some questions to think about to help you get through your Friday!

Do you feel good about the progress you have made towards paying down your debt, or do you feel like you should have accomplished more up to this point?

It seems that everytime I make a bit of progress, something comes up to suck up any money that is saved. (It doesn't happen everytime but it does seem like that. Kid's teeth, DS needing help with his bills, due to job layoff) But I have managed to pay off all but 2 CC's. Now just to keep them that way. (and DS starts work again on monday)

What is your normal routine for paying bills? For example, do you pay everything all at once, one time a month? Or do you pay the bills as they come in or come up online? Do you write checks, or pay bills online? Are you usually early with your payments, right on time, or late?
I have a lot of my bills that are auto withdrawal, the ones I have to pay I do online and try to do them within a couple of days of their arrival. But occasionally one will get forgot. I get paid every 2 weeks and hubby gets paid 2x a month, so our paydays don't usually come together.

What is the one piece of debt that you really hate? Out of everything, if you could wipe out only one credit card, loan, etc, what would it be and why?

It would be our line of credit that was taken out to help finance a family member.

If all of your debts were paid today, how would your life be different? What would you be able to do that you cannot do now? I would cut my hours at work to about 10-15 per week and travel a bit more, play with my hobbies more than I am able to now (I like to bead and sew)

Do you have any goals that you feel like you cannot accomplish based on your amount of debt? Examples: Taking a big vacation, buying a home, getting married, having a child...tell us about them!
We did manage a big vacation this year, the first we have had in 10 years. But I would like to be able to take a couple of weeks off each year without having to worry about being able to afford it.

I feel good about my progress........but wish it was faster--I snow flake, I do whatever I can to earn extra money but it just seems slow

What is your normal routine for paying bills? For example, do you pay everything all at once, one time a month? Or do you pay the bills as they come in or come up online? Do you write checks, or pay bills online? Are you usually early with your payments, right on time, or late?

I pay things bills when they arrive--Gosh I love internet banking and bill pay! On time with payments.

What is the one piece of debt that you really hate? Out of everything, if you could wipe out only one credit card, loan, etc, what would it be and why?

Oh I HATE my personal credit line--Sometimes I look at the balance online and talk to it saying "you are going down Mister" Ya, I know, I need help. LOL

If all of your debts were paid today, how would your life be different? What would you be able to do that you cannot do now?

I would be able to sleep better and save for the future, and get this--Save for something I want--imagine it girls--save for something you want!!

Do you have any goals that you feel like you cannot accomplish based on your amount of debt? Examples: Taking a big vacation, buying a home, getting married, having a child...tell us about them!

Vacation would be nice, buying a home and a secure financial future.

Do you feel good about the progress you have made towards paying down your debt, or do you feel like you should have accomplished more up to this point?

- I was feeling good up until this week when I had to transfer money from my line of credit to pay for an upcoming move so that has me a bit down but overall I will end the year a few thousand less in debt that I began...but I realize that it won't get paid off overnight barring a miracle lol!

What is your normal routine for paying bills? For example, do you pay everything all at once, one time a month? Or do you pay the bills as they come in or come up online? Do you write checks, or pay bills online? Are you usually early with your payments, right on time, or late?

- I pay bills every two weeks on payday via on-line banking. Very easy and it works very well for me. My payments are usually early.

What is the one piece of debt that you really hate? Out of everything, if you could wipe out only one credit card, loan, etc, what would it be and why?

- Out of everything I'd defintely pick my MBNA line of credit...it's my highest balance and minimum payment amount

If all of your debts were paid today, how would your life be different? What would you be able to do that you cannot do now?

- Oh wow I'd be able to focus more time on my musical career and travel more and buy a car because my current 10 yr old car is dying a slow death.

Do you have any goals that you feel like you cannot accomplish based on your amount of debt? Examples: Taking a big vacation, buying a home, getting married, having a child...tell us about them!
Definitely not being able to buy a new car and a home at this moment annoys me a lot...but that's why I'm working hard to pay down the debt.

These questions are great.

Do you feel good about the progress you have made towards paying down your debt, or do you feel like you should have accomplished more up to this point?
I wish that I had gotten serious about reducing my debt sooner, however I am happy with any reduction in my debt because its going down.

What is your normal routine for paying bills? For example, do you pay everything all at once, one time a month? Or do you pay the bills as they come in or come up online? Do you write checks, or pay bills online? Are you usually early with your payments, right on time, or late?
I usually pay bills when they come in - I get paid weekly, and have a fairly good grip of what bills come in when so that I can budget for them. A couple of the bills I pay are by Direct Debit, everything else is paid by online banking. Ignoring the fact that I can't see the point in paying postage on something when it can be paid online, a lot of places here (New Zealand) won't accept checks anymore.

What is the one piece of debt that you really hate? Out of everything, if you could wipe out only one credit card, loan, etc, what would it be and why?
The debt I hate the most is my Bank Loan because the reality is that the only reason it exists is that I made bad decisions while I was still studying. However, it isn't first on the list to eliminate because I have a couple of debts with smaller balances.
I hate the size of my student loan, but I don't pay interest, and I do have the knowledge that I gained while studying so I do have something to show for it.

If all of your debts were paid today, how would your life be different? What would you be able to do that you cannot do now?
If all my debts were paid off, it would be easier to budget. There isn't anything that the debt is stopping me from doing. Having said that I'm not comfortable with saving to travel overseas while I still have these debts.
Having my debts fully paid would make it easier to save for a car, as at the moment I feel the need to balance this saving with my debt reduction even though having a car of my own would help me career wise.

Do you have any goals that you feel like you cannot accomplish based on your amount of debt? Examples: Taking a big vacation, buying a home, getting married, having a child...tell us about them!
I wouldn't say that I can't accomplish my goals with my debt, but I would say that I do put some stuff off since I would rather be debt free.

Do you feel good about the progress you have made towards paying down your debt, or do you feel like you should have accomplished more up to this point?
+ This spring we took out a loan and redid the kitchen, paid off some small debt. Paid for 1 year of county college for the oldest 2 and for DH. We took a family vacation for a week this summer and it was wonderful. I never would have done it, but we are so glad we did. There are a lot of relatives that won't be around in a few years when we can afford it.

What is your normal routine for paying bills? For example, do you pay everything all at once, one time a month? Or do you pay the bills as they come in or come up online? Do you write checks, or pay bills online? Are you usually early with your payments, right on time, or late?
+ The mortgage, home equity, water bill get paid by check usually in person. Everything else is done online. I schedule the payments for the Monday after payday closest to the due date. I am not late and usually not early more than a day or two either.

What is the one piece of debt that you really hate? Out of everything, if you could wipe out only one credit card, loan, etc, what would it be and why?
+ The credit cards that my kids used and put almost $3k on. That bothers me to no end. She did it in such a way, pretty much in $25 charges that I really didn't notice a first. She used different cards so its not all on one either.

If all of your debts were paid today, how would your life be different? What would you be able to do that you cannot do now?
+ I would be able to put money away for retirement for us. We are 39 & 42 and have nothing saved other than what DH has through work. He is set to retire from work in 4 years and start another career.

Do you have any goals that you feel like you cannot accomplish based on your amount of debt? Examples: Taking a big vacation, buying a home, getting married, having a child...tell us about them!
+ I would love to decorate my house. It just never seems to come together because of budget. We have been married for 20 years and in many ways it looks like we are still in the newlywed phase where you are blending styles. I am tired of living with hand me down items.
