I need to grow a spine, lol. I got talked into hosting the Christmas open house this year! My best friend lives down the street from me and has agreed to "co-host". I will be at my house simply because I have more room (my basement is finished, hers isn't). Soooo, I need suggestions on how to throw a low cost party.

I am going to start looking out for

I have a nice cheap appetizer for you. You need a small wheel, triangle (or however it's sold) of brie...not the spreadable kind in the plastic container, but the kind with the white skin, a can of refrigerated crescent rolls, some apricot preserves and some form of nice crackers. Spread the cheese with preserves and lay it on two or thee uncooked crescent rolls. Use just enough rolls to wrap up the brie. You want to be able to press the ends together, but not have too much overlap, or that part will be doughy. Cook according to the directions on the crescent container. Serve warm with crackers. (Thin sliced apples are nice with it, but not necessary.) It's tasty, elegant, easy and not terribly expensive! Contact me back if you have any questions. Best wishes. P.S. I don't know if you have ever made mulled wine, but it's really nice when the weather is chilly. You can use table wine, so it isn't too costly, but everyone really enjoys it. I recommend making your own, not buying the pre-bottled kind, which is not very good. You can find nice recipes online and packaged mulling spices are usually available at the grocery store around this time of year. Have fun! Naomi

I just recently attended a party, and the hostess served Sangria from a punch bowl - we used small clear plastic cups. There are several good recipes for Sangria online or you can buy a good Sangria mixer at the liquor store. If you don't own a punch bowl, there are plenty of creative alternatives for serving. http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf75742960.tip.html
