Improving, steady, or getting worse?

I'm just amazed by how many people I know IRL that are having such a difficult time this year. I'm just wondering, then, if your financial situation over the last few months has improved, worsened, or if you're pretty much holding steady.

Ours has improved somewhat with my income, which has amazed both of us, but it's still not easy. Maybe next year will be different, LOL. I've taken some of the load off of DH so his side work has dropped just a bit but it is SO worth it to see him finally able to relax and play w/ the kids. I'm only making 1500-2k a month right now, but that really frees up his weekends. Now if I just had a laptop to take out on the boat...

(I'm not new...just infrequent!)

Holding steady - for now. My quarterly bonus for the end of this year is going to be much lower than it has been for the last 2 years, though. I'm hoping that's a one-time event. I'm not in financial services, but that meltdown has affected my industry too.

DH and I talked last weekend about the need to restrict some discretionary spending for a while. This weekend I'll go over the budget with him so we are on the same page (literally) about what we are NOT spending.

One thing that I'm not happy about is that I had set aside a substantial tithe from a windfall that I may need to draw on. I would like to donate it to the food bank that supplies all the food pantries in our area. I will know by January whether I'm going to be able to give the whole amount or just part of it.

Our financial situation has improved tremendously. This is the best year income wise for us. This is due to DH getting a great job recently and also because I have found something to do online for some extra monthly cash. Our focus for 2009 will be to finally pay off most, if not all, our debt which was accrued in the years we were having financial difficulty.

It's been a hard year, but things seem to be improving a little.

Sorry to butt on on your Q, but I have to recommend Elance. I use the site as a writer, but there are also positions for admin assistants, typing, data entry, and the like. I've made nearly 6k off of Elance since May, and that's just a few hours a week. My last blog entry is actually a how-to for winning bids on Elance, so feel free to check it out. It's great for writers, but there are other opportunities as well. For example, right now there are:

634 open jobs for data entry
175 for transcription
587 for Excel

The list goes on and on. So basically if you can type, you can make money there. And you can do it for free (you just pay a small % of your earnings after you're paid). There's a lot more detail on my blog, links included, and I do NOT get referral credits. It's the same link anyone else would go to. Here's the article on my blog on how to win bids:

This has been a terrible year for me stress/financially wise. But on the flip side, I have learned so much! I took over a business from my ex-husband that I enjoy. I didn't realize it would cost as much as it did though. I do like it, I just hope I can make it all work and things will be better next year and much better the year after that. As long as sales go the way they have been, I should be ok.

That being said I acquired 30,000 in personal debt in May and have reduced it just recently to 19,999(couldn't resist the extra dollar) in just 7 months. I have put every extra dollar into this and will feel so much better when it is gone.(need to beef my ef!) When it is gone I will concentrate on new house savings and getting my business in better shape. Hopefully things will hold out until then. Next year will be my year where I meet financial independence(perhaps early 2011)

I know there are lots of people out there that are having trouble making ends meet, my heart goes out to them. If something were to go wrong my house of cards might just topple. This year at Christmas I will be thinking of them especially with all the talk of job loss out there.
