You do not have to agree

No one has to agree or disagree with me. Just something to think about.
Last night our local TV stations had a board of people on answering questions about getting out of debt and credit problems and people that were behind in their house payments. Seems some lenders here in town are also returning half payments and will not make deals with folks that have become behind in their house payments.
In the pass if you got behind in your house payments Banks were willing to work with you to keep you in your home.

I am finding a number of people who have been late or short on a mortgage payment and the lender sends back the payments and directs the homeowner to not send any more payments because they are now in foreclosure and there is nothing more to discuss.
Your post now sheds light on what's going on.
Thanks Mary Ann.

I think a major problem is that businesses are looking at the bailouts almost like corporate welfare and like they deserve it.
Absolutely true.
There are the same 3 who fought seat belts, fought air bags, fought fuel efficient vehicles, denounced global warming, fought emission control, and year after year produced pieces of junk that their dealerships wouldn't stand behind when failures occurred during warranty periods. My favorite was "the front right wheel fell off because you make too many right turns".
You raise some valid points.
I will pre-face this entire message by saying that I live in a town in Michigan that is GM heavy. I am watching this area fail and fail quickly because GM is closing plant after plant after plant. Unfortunately, the Michigan economy is based solely on the auto industry. As a rule, this state has never had any other large employers and now that we're in such desperate times there aren't any businesses that want to come to this state.
That being said, I believe the government should help out the automakers. Now, I do not believe they should be given a handout with no accountability on the automakers part. They should have to show the government how they are going to fix their problems. I know GM has gotten to this point by agreeing to ridiculous contracts with the UAW. At the time, GM couldn't afford a strike so they agreed to whatever the UAW put on the table in order to keep the workers in the plants or to get them back to work. This is now biting them in the rear end. They (GM) need to say to the UAW "Sorry, but these contracts are killing us. We can not handle it anymore". The workers who complain about a cut in their pay need to realize a cut now could insure they have a job later.
If GM goes under, this area is in BIG trouble. Everything in my area hinges on GM, so we will ALL stand to lose our jobs.
I know that people who don't live here don't understand the impact this could have on not only this area, but the country in general. They only see it as the automakers begging for a handout. Try and remember the little guy who NEEDS GM to survive.
All of the outsourcing courtesy of the Big 3 will suffer if the Big 3 disappear.
