Christmas is for kids and since it doesn't sound like any little ones would be missing out, I would scale back Christmas. Who knows what is around the corner......emergencies always happen and some are more expensive than others. If I didn't have to go on this trip(need and a want) I would put all my extra in there. When I get back I will work on building it up and keep snow flaking my debt. I hate being under prepared!
Side note--a bit of a bah hum bug--even the part of Christmas is for kids is getting highly commercialized and slightly disgusting. I want to teach my kids it is about spending time together(making chocolates, just got my red and green!) not getting a bunch of video games so they can sit on their butts and ignore me LOL. I am even considering popping corn and sewing garland for the tree this year with their help.(has anyone ever done this? I think my mom did it one year and we had a blast!!)
Scale back Christmas and fix the car would be my vote.
