How do you guys pay bills that you have to save for? I have a checking and a saving account but some bills, (ie car insurance, water bill, drivers licence) that are in my budget I don't pay monthly, I pay them quarterly. How do you keep in mind what money is for what bills according to a lump sum in your savings or checking. And next year I would like to start saving for a house down payment as well. Just trying to keep it all straight!?

Confession of an old lady

I could lie and tell you it is really easy but at my age it is getting really hard to keep things straight. My mind just stops working sometime

I think what I am going to try is an excel spreadsheet. I have listed all the categories, then as I add to my savings account each pay check I will divide up which sum is alloted for each with a running total at the bottom for the balance of the account. Then, as I pay something I can adjust the numbers and start over again(if I need to pay car insurance, I will transfer that amount to checking, pay it, then when I get paid next allot whatever amount I need to pay for it next time or a portion of it if I can only alot so much each month. I will see how this goes.
