First of all I want to say good for you for having all of your debt paid off in the first place! I agree with the others that the bright side of all of this is that you don't have a bunch of debt hanging over your heads as well as the mortgage, utilities, etc. I would def. call the bank. I know here where I'm from (IN) our bank has a "skip-a-pay" program. You can choose one month a year where you can skip a payment. You just have to fill out paper work at the bank. Also there is an energy assistance program here as well. You have to meet certain guidelines-income, amt of people in the household, etc. I was actually on it one time when I was in college. I was living alone at the time making about $800/month. I got approved for $225 assistance which paid my electric bill for about 2-3 months. I would check into food stamps as well. The only thing with those is that they go by the amt of money you have made in the past 30 days. It would probably depend on when your husband was laid off. If it has been within the last 30 days then they would count his income from that job and you

Oh Mes!

What terrible timing. I don't know what I would do right now with a job loss. At least you don't have all the debt. Good for you for getting out of it!

What about picking up extra hours with your part time job? Lots of places look for seasonal help this time of year because they are so busy. Might be worth looking into.

I agree with previous posters re calling the bank about the mortgage and the utility places. Hopefully they can work with you.

I hope this is just a short term set back for you guys. Don't forget all you have learned with cutting back on things during your debt repayment.

You can do this!
