I think I will only give gift cards from large retailers that I KNOW aren't going to file for bankruptcy (like Wal*Mart) after the holidays. I will definitely be more careful if I decide to give them out -- and will be checking the list of stores prior to buying any.

I'm giving three this year.

Two Visa ones--one for MIL and one for MIL's brother.

I got a gift card for my brother for gasoline this year. He is 27 and I know is struggling. I wanted to give him something he needed and would appreciate.

I got my little nephew who lives out of state a Toys R Us gift card. This way I didn't have to ship more than an envelope and saved the cost of shipping.

I voted "definitely" for buying gift cards this Christmas. However, I will only be buying gift cards from places that are not in trouble.

I usually buy grocery cards for my kids, as they live quite a ways away and it would be silly to pay the postage on things that they can just as easily pick up themselves.
