How many of us are about to set a goal to get out of debt? Or set a goal on the way to get out of debt?

I am not sure which I am going to do because I do not want to overwhelm myself.

I am very scared at looking at this. I need to get the laptap fixed and I am going to start making some spreadsheets.

I am actually worried about how bad this is.

Each day that passes is one day that could have been less financially challenging for you. Facing facts stinks and it hurts. Makes you feel shame, sadness, etc. Lots of bad emotions. BUT, the sooner you do this the sooner you heal and move forward. The economy is in the toilet right now - I wish I had faced my finance facts sooner but I am better off NOW then if

I agree with PP. Don't wait for the laptop to do fancy spreadsheets . . . a good ol' fashioned pen and paper will work. Totalling it all up and facing your demons is hard, but you really do feel SO MUCH better once you have a sense of control over the whole thing. Even if you can't be debt free in a year, or two or five, having a PLAN to get you there makes you so much better off. I want to continue building up our emergency fund. Our efund is nowhere near where I’d like it to be. So, the third goal for 2009 is to get it to $10,000.

I am setting a very attainable goal to pay off my debt completely in 2009! I am very excited- it will be a HUGE weight off of my shoulders.
