Um, that would be me. And that's why I finally mustered the determination a few years ago to have every possible bill withdrawn directly from my checking account so I don't have to take any action AT ALL. I don't even do the online bill-paying thing where you release the funds; I make sure it's debited directly from my account. I use this for mortgage, taxes, life & disability & home auto insurance, car loan, electricity, phones, DirecTV, even a monthly payment to my Dad, because we use the same bank!

Because I was too darn distracted and/or reluctant to sit down and WRITE THOSE CHECKS, I was often a day or a week late (even when I had the funds) and so my interest rates went higher and higher. Dumb, dumb, dumb. But I'm over that now. ;)

I can only speak for myself but I have not been late on a bill for maybe 15 years. There was a time many years ago when there was more bills then there was money Then the house payment came first and I was late sometimes on the other loan payments.

I don't think there is one person on this board that doesn't put great effort into paying all their bills on time if they have the money to do so. There might be a few that have someone out of work who can't because they don't have the money. But I think that I can pretty much speak for all of the ladies that if it is all possible they pay all there bills on time and even some extra.

Being late with bills and paying extra interest and late charges and over limit fees just isn't cool.

Thank you for your judgement. I don't need to be lectured to and made to feel less than I am due to your tone.

For the rest on this thead....

I have to say that it is not done on purpose or due to lack of money. It is simply due to my lack of skills when it comes to multitasking and remembering. I was on time for most of this year until Ike hit and I got out of the habit. Now I am fighting to get back into that habit again.

I will bring them to the office so I can pay them on a small break but then something happens and the deadlines get pushed closer and bam I have forgotten. Heavens I have forgotten to eat or even go to the Ladies room when I get this busy at work.

*raises my hand* oh, me me me!

I swear its a good thing my apartment complex doesnt report to credit agencies, because that "1st of the month" thing ALWAYS turns into the 3rd..4th...etc...

I didn't do that but I did sit down every paycheck and did it.

But you have given me an idea.

Life just gets in my way. I have so much going on all the time even at work I am running around. I think you hit it on the head about sitting down every week.

I make a list each month of bills that will be paid, and then I sit down twice a month and pay bills...usually the morning of payday.

If you have a show you always watch, or if you have kids and the kids sit at the table doing homework, whatever....

I'm sure you're not the only one to do this. I was a terrible procrastinator and would put bills aside fully intending to pay them, and then I'd get busy or distracted and realize often times the day the bill was due or even later, that I hadn't paid it. I fully admit it was a certain amount of laziness and lack of organization on my part.

Now that dh handles the checking account, the bills get paid the day they arrive in the mailbox. It's much nicer this way.
