I'm almost sure you can do this but DH will probably have to do it if you don't have a card with your name on it. I just looked it up on my Discover card and it gave me a locator to look for a bank and it says all you need is your card and a picture ID. Also, if you have a PIN for the account or can call them and get one established, you can use an ATM w/most credit cards. Check the customer service area of your credit card website. Discover says you can call to designate a PIN so they may have a way for you to do that over the phone.

Have you considered making an appt at a non-profit credit counseling service? (no fees)

No, I haven't decided to go to one of those because in our case -- we could declare bankruptcy but that won't help much when you still have to feed the kids, etc...

It's a balancing act between surviving and not.

Becky,

I echo Peggy's idea...have your DH go to your bank and get the CC cash advance if that's what you need to do.

Try calling the mortgage company and asking if you can use your credit card to make this month's payment. I did that one time with a utility payment. It cost me an extra $5 fee to do it, but it was worth it.

I'm sorry, but for people who are living paycheck to paycheck losing even one day of pay CAN make the difference between a bill getting paid on time and not getting paid on time. It really can.

If you read, she told you that her dh was laid off this year. If you've ever been through a layoff, you'd know that it completely and totally kills your budget. Unemployment isn't even close to what your normal take home pay is - so you have to try and survive on a lot less. I'm betting they are still recovering from that.

Credit counseling often hits your credit as hard as bankruptcy in the end because they hold your money until the accounts are WAY past due and then they negotiate with the credit card companies for a lower pay off. Sorry,

I'm sorry to hear you're going to be late on your mortgage. If I were you, I would pay them whatever money you have. We've always been told that it's better to pay SOMETHING on it than nothing at all. No, it won't be the full payment and you'll likely end up with the late fees and such, but at least it will show they you're trying.
