Thanks for all the support and suggestions from everyone. I filed for unemployment on Monday. I thought I could go into the office but everything is now done online. I should hear something back in the next few days. I have turned in a couple of applications but honestly there is nothing available in the small town I live in. I have looked online, checked out the classified ads, and put the word out with friends and family. I moved in with my mother after my father passed away so at least I don't have to worry about rent or a mortgage. Tomorrow I am going to talk to a couple of temp agencys. I should be ok for at least another month or two. I did get two and a half paychecks from my employer. How do I not get discouraged? I just feel so lost. Again thanks for listening!

Goal #1:
check out my posting about the cencus. Cencus takers are needed in little towns too.
And remember older seniors they need help all the time I know I do right now
Just to piggyback on Maryann: I worked for the census back in 1999 and it was steady work for a long time, so long as you were a good worker. We were given short-term assignments, then were told that was it in terms of the job; but, then a day later I'd get a call for the next segment of work. They did that to get rid of people who did more talking than working, IMO. It was really interesting work, from driving all over to people's homes (working in pairs) to going as a group to Assisted Living facilities and nursing homes, etc. I'd do it again if I were looking for work.
With 2009 right around the corner, they'll be starting the 2010 census work soon, I'd imagine. We had to take a test but it was pretty easy.

Hey KRG,
I wanted to offer some thoughts on how not too get too discouraged.
My husband had real good luck this summer when he posted his resume on Monster.com.
