I'm not a fan but have watched the program, which opens with a brief mention they have "income property".

What I had read lead me to believe that they were debt free

As a member of fundamentalist faiths, membership has its benefits.

I've read stories about these families complaining about people judging them. Put your entire life out there and you'll get judged. Plain and simple.

I'm not a fan of the Jon and Kate show or the Duggar show. I feel it exploits their children for their own gain.

From what I have read Mr. Duggar refinanced the commercial properties to buy the 20-acres.

I've not heard anything about their finanical picture prior to the show. I do know that I disagree with putting your family on tv in order to earn money. It's one thing if YOU want to go on a tv show (like Survivor, Big Brother or Amazing Race) to earn money. It's another thing to subject your children to that lifestyle day in and day out -- year after year (like Jon and Kate have done). We would all like to be 100% debt free and finanically secure, but I wouldn't do it at the expense of my family and our privacy (plus, we're boring as heck.. no one would watch a show about us... lololol).

I agree with you, Brandee.

The kids always suffer. Imagine being bombarded with fans as you go to the grocery store?

I'm really surprised at the "behind the scenes info" on the Duggars. I think they lead their "audience" to believe some false information about them since they are now giving speeches on financial freedom & debt free living.

Jon & Kate originally aired on a documentary type show which isn't too bad. But actually signing the deal to become a full fledged TV show was a little much. Those poor kids.

I can't imagine having 18 children. I can't imagine feeding them, clothing them and being able to give each child the individual attention that I think children need. I'm not against someone having a big family -- while it isn't for ME -- there's nothing wrong with it. But, 18 children? And I've read they're already discussing number 19! Does there come a point where enough is enough? Could they support these children without the lucrative contract and speaking engagements that are directly connected to them having a tv show?

I can not imagine trying to buy groceries for that many people! Or clothing them! Even with hand me downs, SOMEONE would ALWAYS need something new...

It's not a family: it's a business.
