Looking toward the new year 2009

It is not that far away 2009. I think I have done pretty well in 2008 but I need to get some of my act together for 2009. I would like to see the balance of my debt go under that 10,000 by this time next year. I don't really know how to do it. Recently, we seems to go in the hole every week and it has to stop..
My figures have changed a lot in the last few months and they will be changing more in January. Only thing is I really don't know exactly what action to take to get the debt down faster and stop the going in the hole each week. I feel sometime that I am playing catch up.
Seems every time I planned to get a lot snowflaked something comes up and bang the snowflakes

If anyone can figure out how to make the numbers work, you can Mary Ann.
Your post made me look at what I've achieved this past year and I am amazed.

You are the one I am trying to keep up with Don't you know that? My couch is getting bare going to have to work on the recliner next I guess.
I might have found a little money in the eating out but we haven't spend much on grociers this month. Food is suppose to be 12% which is 382.68
If I add the krogers and such up and eating out it comes to 443.00 I am 61.00 over. That could be part of it To much going out to eat. But then we just
I can definitely relate! Sometimes it seems like we should have made more progress, but I know we could be more dedicated. For example, DH likes to have steak on the weekends. We grill it at home rather than go to a restaurant, but if we were REALLY dedicated we'd be eating refried beans on tortillas, LOL. I know this, he knows this, but honestly he works too darn hard for me to begrudge the steaks. However, over the last few months a few changes have happened in our lives to change my level of dedication somewhat.
First, we now have land to build our house on. Second, we have the house plan picked out and we know we can afford it. (After it's all said and done, our mortgage payment should go DOWN). Granted, we still need to purchase blueprints and have them officially approved by the city, but we've spoken with them and the general process is acceptable and our plans meet with the city code. I have the house plan printed out and posted next to my computer and in the kitchen so I'll see it a LOT as a reminder. ;c)
And finally, since I've been working from home this year (vs. not working at all before, ever) the amount of pressure that it had taken off of DH has been incredible. If we were truly dedicated, I suppose he'd still be killing himself trying to do the same stuff he was doing before, but instead he's relaxed. He's happy. He's planning boat trips in the new boat (which was given to him and includes a cabin and a bathroom) and playing with the kids more. He's done everything for us for so long that it feels good to know that he can wake up on a Sunday morning and not have to go straight out to work.
That said, I want that for good. So I'm determined to get rid of this debt and get the mortgage paid off and live that happy carefree life for the rest of our lives. I'm not going to make DH give up his weekends or steak night to do it, but that fire has been stoked and I want it BAD. He's still not turning down side work, but knowing that it's not life or limb to get it done in time feels incredible.
I do know how you feel, though. It seems like there's always something and then things should be better "next month" and then it's something else. We just keep hanging on and pushing, and there's always progress. Sometimes it's not as easy to measure as a number, but I feel it nonetheless. =c) I like my spreadsheet b/c it shows how much my balances go down even when I'm not flaking, which is always a good pick me up. Heaven knows you need plenty of those when you're fighting this battle!
Here's to progress in 2009! *clink*
Goal #1:
Just keep plugging along. It's really overwhelming when you start to think of everything that may happen in the next year. I know that one emergency would put us over the edge. Our car could break down, our heater could break...I don't even want to write anything more
