Hello everyone.

I was a member of this board last year for a few months and then my life seemed to get away from me with a job change (for the better) the passing of my grandmother and some less than fantatic medical news and I had to focus on all of these things.

Welcome back

I agree leave the student loans and the mortgage out of the page After all both are considered on TV as good debt.

Good luck on the new house just don't go wild buying things for it at first Someone told me a long time ago to just live in a house for about 6 months before you start redoing it To see exactly where the redoing really needs to be done. I think that is pretty good advice and I have followed it for a few years.

Hope all your snowflakes in 2009 don't melt and instead hit their targets.

Michelle:

I've been missing you!! So happy you ended up buying. I remember you saying that was not in the realm of possibility. Also, I remember some medical issues and have thought about you a lot as some of my younger colleagues are going through similar things and I see first-hand the heartache.

Still in the Boston area? Still have your dog?

Welcome back!!

Welcome! Congrats on the new job and the new house. =c) I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother and the not-so-good medical news.

As far as the bills, I don't include my mortgage. I want to pay off everything else and then I'll dive into that, plus we're building a house in 2010 and that mortgage isn't going anywhere for a while. =c)

Hi Dee,

It is nice to be back among friends who understand! I can't believe you remember so many details! You have a great memory.

Yes we stayed in the Boston area, in fact we moved less than two miles to the next town over which is considerable cheaper than where we were and the tax rates are MUCH lower due to a higher level of industry in the town we moved to. We moved into this idyllic neighborhood only one street over from my brother and his family.

The medical stuff continues though I am counting my blessings as it could be worse. The diabetes is managed with oral meds and diet (though I am doing awful at not snacking this time of year!).

Michelle:

I'm so sorry you received such discouraging news on the baby-front. That's exactly what one of my friends is going through and the disappointment can be quite overwhelming. This isn't a parenting board or adoption board, of course, but all things in our lives are so intertwined with everything else. I can't just separate my financial self from my mom self or my teacher self or my wife self or anything else.

That is great that you're close to your brother and I am so happy for you that you found a home of your own. We have no family near us and it gets lonely at times. Maybe that's why I get so excited over my cyber-friends!

Happy to see you are back!

Congrats on the new house! We, too, bought a great house this year and we're just refinancing now to save even more money each month. It's a blessing, but I agree with MaryAnn. We haven't done a lot to it -- kind of "living with" the flaws for now -- but it has given us much more space, which we desperately needed. We have a great "wish list" started for the coming years!

I am optimistic about 2009!! 2008 was a year of change to us, and I'm looking forward to focusing more on the things we can do to make 2009 a historic year as far as paying down our cc. Those are my primary focus. We have a small SL and then the mortgage (which is wayyyy down the line as far as paying off). I'm mad it took me as long as it did to open my eyes to the downfall of cc -- we used them for convenience :-( -- but we haven't used them in months and we're finally on track (let's hope it's the right one!) :-)

Welcome back and I look forward to following your journey!
