What do you consider to be your "biggest challenge" on your debt reduction journey?

Has your "biggest challenge" changed along the way on your journey?

What challenges do you anticipate in 2009?

All my best,
Danni

Have you considered using a crock pot to cook your dinners? Just toss all the ingredients in the morning, let it cook (and make your house smell delish all day!) and people can take from it as they are hungry. Also is great for leftovers......

I am not much of a cook either, and am always looking for healthy ways to make easy & quick

Ours would be lack of income with DH being unemployed to getting the debt out of the way quicker. Hopefully once he finds a job paying the debt off be alot easier.

Definitely it has been getting DH on board with me to conquer this debt.

I guess I haven't really thought about that. I have a nice crock pot. I have a crock pot cookbook. I should get more organized. i think I have this aversion to cooking. Maybe because it makes a mess, but I need to get over it, pronto!

Oh! So many challenges. I think the biggest challenge has just been coming up with a plan to get rid of the debt once we incurred more than we were comfortable with.

Has your "biggest challenge" changed along the way on your journey?
Yes, once we came up with a plan that worked, it became quite easy and even exciting to realize how fast we were dealing with the debt.

What challenges do you anticipate in 2009?
Two major challenges to deal with right now. The one I am really concentrating on right now is writing down where my money is going. I have set myself a new rule...can't go on the computer until money spent is written in the book.

My second challenge will be to stop using credit cards for most purchases and paying them off when they come in. I want to stop living one month behind. Not sure how I am going to go about this, but not going to worry right now.

Great questions!

OMG! I do the same thing! I am constantly trying to shuffle numbers around. How can I pay this sooner, how can I avoid spending any money...It's constantly on my mind. I used to do it all on paper and I would spend hours going over numbers. Then something would come along and all my numbers would go out the window and I'd have to start all over. It was kind of fun for me because I'm a control freak, but now that I have Quicken, I can just plug in the numbers and the computer does everything. But I know what you mean about stepping away from the spreadsheet! Although mine was a notebook since I don't have spreadsheet software!

I have a question for you. Do you currently carry a CC balance? The reason I ask is because if you have the ability to pay of the CC's (and you don't overspend on them) then it may be a good idea to pay for everything on the CC's IF you get some kind of rewards. The way to get around feeling 1 month behind is to pay for it as soon as you get home. This is how I used to work before I made the (major) accounting error that got me here ($5000 in debt).

I have a PC mastercard that gives me PC points to use towards groceries. I also have a PC bank account that has my CC as a bill online. I would use my card to pay for whatever I needed (gas for example) and then go home and log on to the computer and immediately pay that much money to the CC. You can do this once a week if its easier for you. The money is immediately pulled from your chequing account and you don't pay interest but you do get rewards (to date I've redeemed over $1000.00 worth of free groceries!) I guess this would only work if your bank allows you limitless online transactions and there is no fee on your card (I'm not by any means pushing PC, its just the one that works for me!!)

Just a thought :)
