DH just got let go from his part time job last weekend.

That put us just barely making paycheck-to-paycheck.

Today he found out that his FULL TIME job is closing its doors at the end of February.

Not only is that our MAIN source of income, it is our health insurance! I am 3 months pregnant and not really sure how you have a baby with no health insurance!! :-(

I bring home roughly $1,000 / month.
Our bills (including paying a bit MORE than minimum payments on a couple debts) add up to just under $3,000 / month. So he needs to find something that will bring home about $2,000 / month PLUS health insurance - FAST! We live in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which is a decent-sized town, but there just aren't jobs here right now.

If you have any suggestions, I'm open-ears, but really I just wanted to vent. We were so hopeful in the New Year to start SAVING money, and then he just keeps losing jobs. blah

Oh, no!

Life just seems to be all two steps forward and one step backwards, doesn't it?

Yup.

Well, I refigured the bills, and tweaked things a bit. We can GET BY on about $2,300 instead of $3,000 each month. That still doesn't mean my paycheck ($1,000/month) will cover everything, but if we scrimp down to that, it will make it a bit easier to manage.

I should probably cash in all the survey money I have been saving up. I've probably got about $50 saved up between the different survey sites I do.

This must be very stressful for you.

But hopefully he will be able to find a job to make up the 1,300. Has he tried finding bits of work online?

Unfortunately, when my husband was looking for work, it took him about 5 months to find a position. (And then, in that week alone, he got several phone calls for interviews. Weird.) I hope it'll be faster for you guys. While he was looking for work, he tutored and was a cashier.

I make a little bit each month posting on sites like mylot and reviewstream. Maybe you could try some of that, too? I don't know if you're in an every little bit helps mode, or if you're in we need one big solution mode.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry! We switched insurance during two of my five pregnancies (for happy reasons) and it's a pain, so you have my sympathies. ((((Hugs)))).

I do a lot of work through Elance. I make $1500-$2000 a month freelance writing VERY part time (I'm a SAHM of five and we homeschool), and about half of my income comes through them or from contacts I made there. While I work the writing jobs, they also have typing, transcribing, admin assistance, and all kinds of other work there. It won't come with insurance, but it might help you get by if you or your hubby can put your skills to work.

((((Hugs)))), hon.

He does various types of building/construction.

He has built mobile homes, modular homes, RVs, and recently cement mixer trucks & boom trucks.

He has a decent supply of his own tools, and is a HARD worker, and SUPER-FAST learner. :-) Hard to really describe that on a resume. I am sure he can get a GLOWING letter of recommendation from his current employer, though. They kept him around (during his trial-phase) while they laid off HALF THE FACILITY! So, they must have liked SOMETHING about him! ha ha

Thanks for the support. We'll make do, one way or another. I do a tiny bit of online work for ChaCha, and DH does (Rarely, because he hates it). But in the time being, we might both spend a bit more time doing ChaCha when we are home.

Norma,
Thank you for taking the time to try to help! He was planning on going to Home Depot & Lowe's tonight to look into part time work. Maybe now he will look at doing full time there, if nothing else pans out.

He has a buddy at work that does some car repair stuff on the side. Maybe now that he is losing his job, they will be able to do full time car work. They've talked about it in the past. My husband doesn't know a TON about cars, but he can change the oil, change the brakes, etc.

Thanks again!!! He will be home soon, so I can speak with him face to face about what ideas he has so far.

You might even want to try the Quick oil change places.

Has he given any thought to going into business for himself? There's always a need for a good handy man. I know in our area, my dh did quite well putting his name out there and doing small building jobs and repairs..especially for senior citizens.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It really stinks.
