Update on overdraft charges

I posted last week that I had called about seeing if the credit union would reverse the 17 overdraft charges (at $27 a pop - YIKES!) we were slammed with when we made a mistake with an online payment. The first time the person I talked to said they would put in a request and it would take 24-48 hours and we'll know if it was approved if they reverse the charges. Nothing happened. DH called again, but was on hold for so long he gave up. That was last Friday. This week he called again. This time the guy said he had the authority to reverse two charges (which he did) and he gave us the number to send a fax to request the rest of the charges be reversed. We sent the fax on Wednesday. Nothing happened. Today DH's direct deposit went through (he didn't try to get it changed, which annoyed me but that's another discussion), so most of the deposit was gone. DH called again and this time they agreed to reverse 7 more charges, so they reversed 9 of the 17 total. I still think we kind of got screwed because they let so many charges through before they declined the card, but it was our error and I think this was a fairly reasonable compromise. It's a huge relief to not have to survive 2 weeks on less than 1/3 of what we usually have.

Hugs Amy!

A very expensive lesson to learn, to be sure, but good to you and your DH on really refusing to just be victims and doing what you could to have at least some of the charges reversed.
