Does anyone else remember how tough things were in 1982-83?

I remember that time. Both my parents were laid off for most of 82-83. For bill and grocery money we did all sorts of odd jobs.

I don't really remember it very much. I graduate in 1990 so that would have made me....12 or 13? We ate a lot of pancakes I do remember that much. My mom sewed the majority of my clothing, and Christmas was one or two nice gifts but the rest was stuff she made. I found out later that my aunt had given them money for us for Christmas. SO she bought us toys.

We didn't take vacations other than camping trips in a tent. Nothing like 4 kids in a tent with the dog. yeah..the memories...blech I did do church retreats and camp in the summer. BUT... i earned every penny for the church retreats by babysitting, and summer camp was through the church. They gave scholarships for community service.

What hit us harder is when we moved to the family farm the next year and General Motors closed down the Framingham, MA plant. Thanksfully my grandmother gave him the start up costs for his own business, and he worked doing temp work to supplement. My mother also went back to work for medical insurance.

Some details are kind of dim for me.
