We have never been in trouble with the IRS but my son got laid off a few years back He was working any where and doing everything he could get at the time. A lot of it was contract work. One of the people he worked for didn't send him a W-2 form and since he had so many little jobs he forgot all about this one. Anyway finally the guy himself got into trouble with the IRS and

This is not your debt; it should not be your problem.

To be fair, they have been together since 1999, highschool sweethearts and live in their first home together. It seems that their relationship is more of a married one than a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. I agree that he should be highly involved in getting this debt to the IRS figured out and that she shouldn't be putting only her money towards his debt but they were most likely together when he accrued this debt as a couple. I just think that if I were in her situation with a long-term boyfriend, I would probably be offended by this post. Everything about them is co-mingled at this point. I mean, how long do you have to be together to be considered common-law married? This is assuming, of course, that everything in her signature is about this same guy.

I am well aware of their history, and it has always appeared that he is using her.

Well, obviously you don't need my approval and that's fine if you know more about their situation than me. I just kind of felt a kindred spirit with her, maybe because I was together with my now DH through thick and thin since way back in highschool. If those comments would have been directed at me, I would have been very upset because I would have felt you were attacking me, but I'm not in their situation and I was just putting my own feelings into it. I didn't know if you realized how long they had been together. It doesn't matter to me! I wasn't meaning to be harsh.
