Hi everyone! Last week (or was it the week before??? I can' t remember) Oprah had Suze Orman on her show and someone here kindly provided the link to her book. I remember we were discussion the action plan, and her challenges (don't spend for a day, don't use CC's for a week, don't eat out for a month --> do I have that correctly???)
Anyhow, I've been challenging myself to see what I can do here, and so far, I've met two of three!
1) There are more days when I don't spend then when I do! (of course, I'm not counting paying bills here!!) I've watched my pennies and second guessed everything I've wanted to buy! I'm very proud of myself!
2) I haven't used the CC's in 12 days! I am terrible for using them and then promising myself I will pay them off, but this time I have been good! I want to go a month without using them
3) Don't eat out in a month. Haven't accomplished this (and not likely to in the near future, lol). I have eaten out once in three weeks (we got stuck at the airport waiting for my sis so we caved and had fast food). We are going for wings on Wednesday with an old friend

1. No problem
2. No problem
3. Dh always eat out when ds is away at snow camp (this past weekend). I wasn't going to cancel one of our few date nights just for this challenge.
stacy
Lets see. I went three days this week without spending. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
Going to skip number 2 here and go to three. I disagree with Suze on the eating out So many places in Louisville are going out of business because no one is eating out that much any more. I know of at least three nice neighborhood places that have fallen in the last three months.
1. I cant remember if we spent a day without spending money but im sure we did last week. but we made up for it on the days we did spend bc of DDs first bday. This week ill definitely keep up w it though.
2. No problem
3. my goal was a week and we made it to 6 days!! the bday threw us off lol. im a little short on groceries but hopefully i can take care of that tonight since its gonna snow. trying for a week this time :D
I have never read any of those people's books. I think it is just how I live.
I can go weeks with out buying anything, I'm just not near any stores. I do nibble on things from my store occasionally but I am really into left overs that I bring from home all the time.
I do not charge on credit cards very much at all. In fact I have one and I need to charge on it a little bit more so I can get my free $50 gift card with the points LOL. I just don't buy much or go anywhere. I am boring!!! LOL. I am not really boring, but I am focused on this efund building and debt repayment goal.
I don't live in a town with fast food (there is a little restaurant that I try to help out and I go about once a month) so that is not really a problem. I don't think I could go 30 days without doing it though. I usually try to treat my kids to McDonalds or a local restaurant in a town near by at least that often or they start feeling deprived and around birthdays that would be impossible. If I don't want to cook I usually tell my bf it is his turn and that gets me out of it most times, but usually I do like to cook.
1 - only spent money one day last week other than paying bills2 haven't used CC's for about a month. 3 never go more than a week as we go to breakfast every sunday morning with my in laws, but it is at the Legion and only costs $3-4 per person and my father in law looks forward to it, so we won't stop that. but other than that normally we don't eat out(or take out) more than 2x a month.
1. I did this. Bit difficult for me but I did it.
2. We haven't charged on our c/c's since July 2008. This is simple for us now.
3. Not really working on this one. We don't eat at restaurants but we occasionally will get gyros or something from a fast food place. It's rare but I am not wanting to cut that out right now.
