Keeping eating out cost down

In the battle to keep costs down for eating out, which is usually a family affair for us, at least 6 of us at a time, we have started to have dinner at each others house, instead of going out, we make a nice dinner and take turns hosting.(we do this at least once a week) It doesn't cost us any more than our usual grocery bill, we tend to eat healthier than if we do go out or take out. And I think it makes good memories for the little ones, instead of being told all the time to behave nice in the restaurant while the adults try to hold a conversation. If you don't want to make the whole dinner you could always have it potluck with each family bringing something.

That's a great idea! Lucky for you that you have loved ones nearby.
When the kids were younger and we were all poor (all the kids' parents, I mean), we'd get together like that quite a bit. The kids went to a Friends School, so we were all into living simply. The kids could go wild while we talked and had a drink and then we'd eat at our leisure. It was a great way to spend an evening or a Sunday afternoon. I sure wish we still lived near everyone. More than 10 years later, they are still our best friends, though.
