A pleasant surprise

Today DH called Citibank to see if he could get them to lower our interest rate. We figured it was a long shot since we'd made some late payments and our interest rate was 28.99%. I had called them a couple weeks ago because i thought our payment was going to be late and I wanted to see if we could avoid the late fee and having to start over with our record of on time payments. The guy I talked to told me to have DH call to see about getting the interest rate lowered. He wouldn't talk to me about it because I'm not the primary cardholder. DH finally called. I figured if they did lower it it would be to 25% or something. They lowered it to 14.99%. That was the card I was going to focus on when we got our tax refund, but instead I'm going to focus on the Discover because it's costing us a fortune.

I'm so happy that we'll finally be able to start making some real progress!

Congrats! That is good news.

I have had the opposite dealings with Citicards. I had a percentage rate of 8.99% and they upped it to 14.99% last month. I called them furious b/c I have NEVER been late on the card and often send at least $50 over the minimum payment. The guy "lowered" my rate for me to 12.99% and gave me a new rate of 3.99% for new purchases. Clearly from our history we haven't charged on the car for 6 months so new purchase rate doesn't matter to me. I am ticked and plan on paying this c/c off with my tax return. I am done with Citi.
