I'm sitting here bored out of my mind. We're broke until Friday, so if we go out and do anything it has to be something free. DH asked DD (3 y.o.) what she would like to do. She said, "I want to stay home." I asked her why she wanted to stay home and she said "Because we don't have a lot of money." I try not to discuss these things in front of her, but I guess I have and it just kills me that my 3 year old is worried about money. I guess in a way it's good that she understands that we don't have an infinite amount of money, but I feel bad that her reason for not wanting to go out is that we don't have a lot of money.

If it were warm outside I'd take the kids to the playground, but that's not an option today. I need to figure out a way to get out of the house without spending money...

Poor sweet pea.

One time my 5 yo ds was at the checkout counter with me at the grocery store. He saw a toy and wanted me to look at it. Before I could open my mouth to say, "we aren't buying it" he looked at me and said LOUDLY "I KNOW I KNOW WE CAN'T GET IT. IT'S TOO SPENSIVE (his word for expensive.)" I just about died right there.

what about the library? You can get books and its fun for kids to pick stuff out and its FREE! Plus, some libraries have story time and some bookstores too. Or what about wandering a mall? Most malls have a play area. Pack some snacks so you don't have to buy anything and window shop or wander the stores.

Take her to the library, art gallery, or museum. I used to take my children to these on a regular basis from when they were very small. It was educational and they learnt how to behave in these places. I now take my young nieces and nephews when I go and they enjoy it. They are great spots to teach your children that you don't have to spend a lot of money to have an enjoyable time.

Our library hosts childrens storytime a couple times a week. Plus there usually isn't any temptation to buy things at the library, museums, or art galleries
