They FINALLY paid me!

I finally, finally, finally got paid for work I did last summer. The check for $1,500 arrived today. It has been a disaster with a company probably soon to go under. The rich owner has been putting dozens of people off all over the country, hoping none of us would ever find out (we did!) and playing one against the other. We finally all banded together and got really tough, setting today as the drop dead deadline or we would sue her. This came after month of excuses and delays. It's wonderful to be able to deposit this but it has been spent seven times over while waiting for it. You know the drill: transferring money around, always saying I would pay myself back when I got paid, and, yes, using credit cards.
Oh well, I can pay my Feb. credit cards and the orthodontist now. The money will be gone by tomorrow. Sheesh if I didn't pay my mortgage for five months guess who would be in foreclosure?

I don't know if you've already deposited it but if there is a local branch of the bank it is written on, I would go and try to cash it with them instead of depositing it in your account. I would also not spend it right away...checks like this bounce all the time and you'll get bank charges on your account and overdraft if you write checks, etc. against it and it bounces. At the very least, I would try to deposit it into a savings account and let it ride 10-15 biz days before you spend it.

Same thoughts here. Get cash from that check.
I thought of that as well and unfortunately I checked and there are no branches within 100 miles. My husband got paid today so our checking account is flush right now. I think I have no choice but deposit it and hope for the best. This person did send me $500 towards the total balance owed ($2K) about two months ago and I worried then it would bounce but it didn't. I think it will be good. I think the issue was she was just not paying people hoping we would give up.

I wonder if you can call the bank and find out if there is enough money in her account to cover the check. I know they do that at our local bank. It's worth a try.

I'm glad you finally got your money.
