Gotta get back in the game!

Man, it always seems like as soon as we make some progress, we do stupid things!

We ate out on Saturday night. We were not planning on it, but we both agreed that we needed some time out. We went to a nice restaurant that we know is quite reasonable. We felt good that we kept it as inexpensive as possible. The kids split one meal, DH and I drank water, no alcohol. Total bill for 4 of us was $40 and that included tip. Brought home left overs, too. DH paid for it with his spending money.

Then yesterday I get home from work and DH got fast food. He had coupons, so it was inexpensive, but not money we planned to spend. We talked about it last night and agreed that we need to get back on track.

But, I ate out today for lunch. I was just too lazy to get something to take for lunch. I looked in the fridge, and nothing popped out at me. I grabbed some fruit and thought I would make it last. But, I was absolutely starving. I caved and bought lunch in the restaurant next door. Sometimes I just wish it was easier to deal with all this.

It just feels like once I make a stupid purchase it's hard to get back on track. Then I feel guilty. It makes me want to stop trying. Sometimes I just wish this was easier.

Thanks for letting me vent. Back on track starting now!

We have started to eat out at least once a week now that I am off bed rest more

And really after going to the supermarket the other day it is with coupons cheaper for us sometime to eat out then to eat at home.

Logan's Road house has this thing on Mon and Tuesday two meals for 13.95 with drinks it is about 20.00 and tip makes it around 25.00 but they are always putting in 5.00 coupons on 20.00 purchases in the newspaper. Which comes out to around 20.00 for the two of us. With steaks and fish going at 7.95 a pound then you add in the baking potatoes 1.45 and the salad A bag of salad without dressing is what a couple of dollars or more Then add in the fixings. That is another 2.00 . I figure it is no higher to eat at Logans sometimes cheaper then it is to buy at the supermarket if there is only two of you.

Not sure what your job is, but if its an office job and you have access to microwave for lunch, it might be a good idea to leave something you can use when you didnt bring your lunch.

I was like this too . . . all or nothing. I started to do things to help set myself up for success! Lunch was a bad time for me, so when Lean Cuisine or PC blue label frozen meals would go on sale, I would stock up on a few and keep them in the freezer. On days where there was nothing in the fridge, I could grab one of these and take it in! As PP mentioned, if you can keep them in a freezer at work, even better!

You can do this! Get up, dust yourself off and get back in the game!!!

Eating out is one of the biggest challenges for DH and I. We both work long hours and sometimes the thought of cooking is just overwhelming; so we either end up eating dinners that are not so healthy - cereal or frozen pizza or going out.

I am going to start trying to prepare more meals in advance. I do find that if I make a lasagna on Sunday it can last us (just the two of us) for three dinners and maybe even

Good job on eating healthier and at home.

I have a crock pot of chili on today - it will be ready when we get home.

Normally (when I work f/t -- which I will be again soon thankfully!) My Dh and I work long hours on conflicting schedules and only see each other on our weekends.

Hi Jax,

The opposite schedule thing can be a challenge can't it. I work 8-5 M-F and my DH works from 4AM to noon. So while we are not on totally opposite schedules - we eat dinner together and then he goes to bed.

He will often call me right when I get to my desk at 9AM while he is eating his "lunch" of soup that he brings from home. While he is eating soup I am usually drinking my coffee - my one daily spend. I just don't seem to like it whenever it is made so for me the $10 a week for my morning coffee from Starbucks (really the regular coffee I get is only $1.97 a day. It does add up but that is my one "thing" and I do always pay cash for it.

Tonight we are having pasta with Turkey meatballs and peppers. I am making enough for lunch tomorrow for myself as well. Soon we will have more "superbowl" chili than I know what to do with as my husband makes a huge put of it every year and we freeze a bunch of it.

Thanks for the support!

Wow, clearly I am a total failure when it comes to food expenses.
