this is my first time on a message board so please bear with me. I am retired, receive ssi and a teamsters pension and am heavily in cc debt. i have no one to blame but myself. i think that i have always had champagne taste with a beer budget. Monday was the first time that i actually sat down and totaled up my entire debt. it was very difficult because i have pretty much been in denial. the last few months i have been taking money from 1 cc to pay the others. i contacted a debt relief agency called hope financial, gave them the figures and was told that i was borderline bankruptcy. they came up with a plan for me and i am thinking about doing it because i don.t want to file bankruptcy if i can help it. I am ready to do whatever is necessary to become debt free. i am 70 years old, single

Hi Max,
I'm probably stating the obvious here, but I would start with the interest rates on your credit cards, and calling the issuers about a lower rate.
Ask yourself what you want the debt relief agency to do for you, and determine what you can do yourself.
They will charge you a fee to basically pay your credit cards.
