We found out yesterday that two of the biggest most prestigious law firms in SF (and nationwide) did layoffs and everyone around here is freaking out.

What I find scarey is those businesses who are making profits and not in financial trouble start downsizing!! Because the ONLY way the economy can get better is by those who can avoid cutting staff, laying off and cutting hours accepting that their getting carried away and cutting back does NOT help them in the long run, it just sends our economy further down that much faster!!

Of course I also believe that government or someone has to find a way to stop what is going on with those CEO's etc who bail taking obscene amounts of money with them as they drive companies further into the ground and the employees sometimes even have to stand in line with other creditors to even get their already earned wages!!

In our area as little as 2 weeks ago the paper and local government were trying to tell everyone we were "still going strong" and "have not been affected by the economy as the rest of the country"

Of course, residents in the area including myself have been furious they have been trying to sugarcoat what is happening and placing rose colored glasses on and trying to convience everyone things are just fine here.

Tattered.

I think it is great if your communittee is looking optimistically at things.

It's not the optimism that upsets me personally -- it's the total stick your head in the sand and deny there is anything happening which is what they have been trying to do all the while sighting business closings, layoffs and cutting state funds to those who actually need them the most.
