Hugs to you!

Just imagine how much worse things would be if you DIDN'T pay attention to your finances. Be proud you had half to put down cash. That's a big accomplishment. Could you have claimed that a year ago? Two years ago?

I betcha two years from now IF something like this happens you will have the whole amount to pay in cash. Baby steps!

What she said!

I know. . . it sucks. . . but at least you were prepared to pay some of it right up front.

I had *two* $800+ repairs on my car about six months ago. You better believe that when we bought DH's new Honda Pilot in October, we bought the extended warranty. Everything I had done on my Subaru would have been covered by it if we'd had a similar extended warranty. Stupid, stupid, stupid me.

Thanks to everyone! All of your commiseration and words of encouragement are why I find this board so fantastic!

I AM glad the car did not break down at some random point and the update is that we have decided to take the full amount $800 out of savings instead of putting any of it on the credit card. It makes me nervous to deplete our savings but we can replenish that in a few weeks when we have our refund in hand.

The van is currently behaving other than the windshield washer fluid does not work. could be frozen from the way below zero temps, and it was almost empty when i had the major work done, but given the other oops I ran into there, would not surprise me if they accidently cut wire or something!
