Maybe you misunderstood, the boy in question was an 18 year old, fresh out of high school.

Your response feels a little harsh. I re-read your original posting twice and still took it that you were saying community colleges were not the way to go, and having read it a final time I see what you're saying. However, I might not have been the only one to take it that way and it can be such a wonderful opportunity for so many "kids" -- for maturity reasons as well as financial ones -- that I didn't want anyone walking away from this thread thinking otherwise. I even said what I said with a =c) so I'm sorry you seem to think that I was being negative.

My kids (who are not spaced four years apart) are not applying to college yet, so I will step back and stay out of it. My apologies for intruding.
