I was reading the Stimulus Plan and looking around lately and I tell you, I think we just penalize work in this country.

Apparenlty there is an $800 payment that will be made to all who are unemployed - I know it is tough out there, and many people need this money to survive right now, but follow my logic for a moment.

The $800 will go to the unemployed in a lump sum check.

I misstated when I posted before.

It's not socialism, I'd say we're moving more toward Marxism/Communism.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

I wasn't for the bank bailouts, I'm not for this stimulus package. I think the government should stay out of it and let things correct themselves. We need to go through a huge adjustment period. It's going to be painful, but it's necessary. Live within ones means and save money.

Anyway..no matter what direction we're heading, it's scary and none of us should stand for it. If you never allow anyone to fail, there is never any reward or success. Free markets and capitalism are what made this country so great.

I'm normally very optimistic, but I really think this stimulus package is going to fail, big time. It's been proven that the big government spending in the 30s prolonged the depression. We're headed down a very bad road.

No offense, but not all of us who are on unemployment are "lazy". I was let go from a job in December. I am 41 years old and have worked since I was 15 years old. I live in a small town and believe me jobs are very hard to find here. I can't tell you the number of applications that I have put in to be told "sorry, we'll keep your application on file but we are not hiring." I have gone on numerous interviews and nothing has come out of it. I am single but I do help my mother support my 15 year old niece that she has custody of. To me, not having a job is humiliating. I have even asked my nephew if he could get me on at the McDonald's he works at. I understand that there are a ton of people who abuse the system but just realize that there are those of us who would give anything to have a paycheck. I hope this doesn't offend anyone because this is not my intent.

You are so right: it is distressing to see services slashed for those who are in need.

All I can say about Meg Whitman is that I'm glad she departed the company she began!

I think the "prickly posts" are a barometer of a pervasive anxiety across America.
