Does this make any sense?

I have a Citicard and have always done statements online, I can't stand to get them in the mail. They just stopped my online statements and are now sending them through the mail. When I called them to tell them I wanted to continue online statements they said they are no longer doing that. Does it make sense that all these credit companies are in financial termoil and they are going to spend money on postage to send a statement in the mail instead of just doing it online. I don't know, I just don't see the point.

Thats bizarre . . . every company I know is TRYING to get me to go to online statememts (and I do for a lot of them). I wonder what the logic is?

I did call them and the card I have which is a Citi Upromise card is switching to paper statements. It is just so inconveinant (sp?). And i figured they would want to save money instead of paying for postage.

They are probably in cohoots with the United States Postal Service and made some kind of illegal contract with that president who just got that raise...It's all a big conspiracy!

I sure hope that most credit cards don't start doing that...does that mean that they aren't accepting on-line payments?

no kidding, I haven;t gotten a paper statement in the mail in such a long time. I hate having all that paper laying around and having to shred it all!

I, too, am surprised to hear this.

The cynic in me had the same thoughts: post late and claim payment wasn't received on time.

I'm not located in the US, so I'm not familiar with the laws there.

However, in New Zealand where I'm from, companies that provide credit must provide the information and statements on paper due to legal requirements. A good example is with a number of banks here you can stop paper statements if you don't have overdraft protection, however, legally, they can not stop those same statements if you do have overdraft protection. I understand that this is because they are required to inform borrowers of the cost of borrowing - not just when they take out the credit card/overdraft/loan etc but when they provide statements.

In saying this, while I'm required to receive printed statements for my credit card I can still access all that same information - transactions, closing balance, minimum payment, etc on the provider's website - so I'm shocked that Citi can't do this for you. I haven't actually looked at a printed statement for a long time - I check my transactions on a very regular basis.
