I just got my book, figured out must-haves and what wants and savings should be.

Mary Ann -

We went to look for a mortgage and the bank said we could afford a $4,000 per month house payment!!

I loved Elizabeth Warren's book and used it in 2001 to pay down my debt. Then, after I had things paid down to a more comfortable level I ran up over twice as much debt. This time around, I've used Dave Ramsey's books, but I think I need to check out Warren's book again. I guess that I don't feel like I deserve any wants, only needs. Wow, no wonder I'm so depressed!

Actually, it's become a pet-peeve of mine that most financial books seem geared to two-incomes and for people who have mortgages.

Could one of you fill the rest of us in? What are the ratios and what are they for? Needs, wants, and savings? I won't be able to get to the library anytime soon and find these percentages interesting.

Thanks in advance,
Dee

Hi Kate,

I wouldn't get too hung up on the audiences for these financial books...I find it best to just garner the information that is helpful to you and apply those ideas to your approach.

I went and checked both books out of the library today. So far All your worth is a really interesting read. I liked Warren from Maxed Out, but had never thought to get her books.

So, I'm glad someone started this thread :)

And, I really relieved to find out my Must-haves are 55%. Not too bad - and it will be down to 50% by the end of the year when I pay off my student loans. Whoo-hoo!

I just remember how it used to be. In fact at the time I was highly pissed that the bank would not count what I made. Of course over the years it never mattered because after that first house Raymond was the only bread winner of the family.
