Have you ever had any good Karma but have nothing to pinpoint it to OR for that matter what you are going to do with the good fortune?

What kind of boat do you guys have? Where do you take it out -- lake, ocean, river? We're on the east coast and have the intercoastal waterway, the NC sounds, the Chesapeake Bay, and the ocean at our disposal. It's GREAT "free" entertainment! We can drop about $10 on gas and we're out for the day. For seven of us, that's amazing!
I really did NOT want to like the boat. DH dragged it home for next to nothing (I think he spent more on gas bringing it home than he did on the boat) b/c the guy said the engine was bad. It needed $20 worth of parts -- a seal or something. DH does all of that himself, so we were in good shape at that point. The first time he took me out I was HOOKED. There's just nothing like being out there, a million miles from anything but the slap of water against the boat or the sounds of flying across the surface of the water and that steady bounce against the waves. And there are so many little beaches around here that are only accessible by boat -- perfect for the kids to play and we don't have to drag everything out of the car and across hot sand, LOL.
Anyway, we're not cruising in luxury over here. That one is a 1982 19' Renken, and this past summer we were given a slightly newer 24' Wellcraft. The Renken is made for playing -- open bow with seating plus room for seven in the back -- while the Wellcraft is a deep-sided tri-hull that's perfect for rough water. It also has a cabin with a double bed and a bathroom. Both were in great condition, so we were so fortunate. The minor mechanical issues were easy for DH to fix, and we allotted $500 of our tax return to do a few unnecessary things.
Teak is ridiculous. DH built a house ten years ago and they insisted on a teak deck. He said the materials for the deck alone were over 50k and that was a decade ago and didn't include the labor! I wouldn't trade common sense for that much money (to say nothing of the fact that it'll burn faster than a match) but I'd love to have enough money to think I could spend it on a deck!

I have always had a boat or pool and love water.

We have a 1986 Starcraft 26' cuddy cabin.
Ooooh, that sounds heavenly! As soon as we get our "big one" (the 24' with the bed/bath) on the water, DH has plans for an overnight date. *grin* We put out about 15 mins from our house right on the Intercoastal Waterway, which is the superhighway for boaters from VA to FL. And it's just like a highway! There are marinas and wonderful restaurants (with docks) up and down the whole thing, but there are huge stretches of nothing but nature. We're going to jump in the boat, go have dinner, then snuggle in for the night on the boat. It's just sooo amazing out there under the stars, isn't it? We live in a relatively rural area (a step less crowded than the suburbs, but in a huge metro area) so we have stars and wilderness around us, but it's not "real" -- not if you know what real country is. And even with our solitude here at home, it's just nothing compared to being on the water.
As it happens, Santa brought the kids one of those towables. They can't wait to get out there and use it. Actually, I'm pretty excited, too, but the idea of putting them out of the boat in deep water scares me a little. They have great life jackets, but the first time my 10 year old got out there to kneeboard I freaked. Actually, the first time my hubby got out there to kneeboard I freaked. He spent all of 30 seconds teaching me how to drive the boat and then he was over the side and my jaw was on the floor. His parents went boating every weekend when he was 5-10 or so, but I'd only been on a "real" boat once in my life before last summer. And there's commercial traffic and some HUGE yachts out there, so it's not like I was on training ground. LOL. I'm glad that my kids, like you, are going to grow up out there. It's amazing!
You know a lot more than I do. I have no idea what some of those parts that you mentioned are! LOL. Either way, it sounds like I know what you'll be doing this summer, and you can bet on where I'll be!

Oh, you like folding chairs - you will love this one.
Ever heard the song "Redneck Yacht Club"? LOL! That's hilarious! Bungee cords, sticks, leaves, and MATCHING folding chairs ... in reverse! ROFLMAO!
That sounds just like us. DH can make anything work well enough to use it, so I've been in that boat more than once ... so to speak. LOL.

That's how I learn my boat vocabulary, too! (And thanks for the primer ... that's a great name for the doghouse! And your boat!)
Okay, $1000 for a piece of wood to rest the anchor on is CRAZY! Of course, that's crazy for a swim deck, too.
We don't spend much time in no wake zones -- just leaving the ramp and there's one around an old seafood restaurant that has been closed for years. That little beach is PACKED with boaters all summer! The commercial traffic can leave QUITE a wake. We were on the Currituck Sound one time and a massive yacht went by down the shipping channel. We were way over near the side and the wake was about 3' high when it got to us (DH's estimate, not mine). He had to turn the boat straight into it or it would have rolled us. My 8yo DS and I were sitting in the bow (of the 19') and the wake actually went over the bow of the boat and rolled in! It happened with three of the waves. We thought it was fun, but DH told me later that it worried him. THEN he tells me he wants to go on the ocean and I told him he was CRAZY! I can handle a few waves from a wake. I can NOT handle bigger waves that won't quit on the open seas! I've grown up in the ocean but I've spent most of that time where I can touch, or close to it. Off shore is not my thing! But the 24' is made for deep sea fishing (tri-hull, 90 gallons of fuel in three tanks, and waist-deep sides). I told him he'd be lucky to get me into the Chesapeake Bay, but then he tells me that we can go watch the fireworks on our anniversary (July 4) and cruise just past the breakers and I'm caving a little, but the rest of me is thinking that there's not a big difference between the ocean and the sounds at the Outer Banks b/c the land is so narrow that separates them. We'll see who wins that one! LOL.
"And if it takes him awhile to decide what he wants, or how.... I hear it several times."
That's my hubby, word for word! He'll spend SO much time explaining something and then the next weekend he's talking about something else, at which point I get confused b/c the two ideas are conflicting. Only then do I find out that plans have changed! LOL.
I like your view of the Bald Eagles better than ours. I almost hit a pair on our road a couple of weeks back. Those suckers are big -- one didn't bother to fly off and I swear it was tall enough to look right into my car window! (I admit that's a slight exaggeration, but it's honestly not much of one!)
Your lake does sound wonderful, though. Consider the lack of fine dining to be an advantage, LOL. We haven't ventured into a waterside restaurant yet, but I'm sure it'll cost a few pennies when we do!
