Jax-

Is this a new home for you or did you refinance in the last couple years?

I was just thinking that maybe they were just catching up to a value that was different and sometimes it takes them 2 years to catch up.

We got a notice that our home is actually going DOWN in equalized value

Did your town happen to go through a re-assessment in the past year? Ours did a year ago and our property taxes doubled. We had bought our home as a fixer-upper and doubled the value of the house with a lot of hard work (and home depot); but, were afraid we'd worked our way out of being able to afford the place! Every year it's a struggle.

We had another appraisal done and found the town's appraisal was accurate, but a lot of people contested theirs and were successful.

Good luck. It is definitely worth a try.

Our home was built in 1934 and we bought it 3 years ago.

Apparently, that is what is going on -- they are playing catch up.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Fie the complaint if anything it could help in the future.
