I held off on a course . . .

even though I really really really really wanted to do it, lol.

I love animals and really feel that I should have done SOMETHING animal related for a career. In a perfect (dream) world, I would get to move outside the city and open a dog boarding kennel. I know the chances of this happening are slim to none but I would love it.

Anyways, I was messing around on the internet yesterday and found a course offered by a local college that teaches animal grooming. Its a month long (weekend course) that teaches the basics (with your own dog . . . mine would love it!). I really really want to take it, it for nothing else then grooming my own two. I also was thinking that I could start up a parttime gig going to people's homes to groom their pets. Nothing serious, just something I could do on the side evenings and weekends.

The course is $630. :(

I could have taken money out of my tax refund to do it, but decided if I do something like this, I want to start on good footing and save for everything with cash. I am guessing this course will be open again in the summer so I can do it then, but I am impatient, lol.

I guess this shows that I am progressing from the days of just jumping head first into things .

I don't know, that course sounds like it meets a couple of your personal passions - your love of animals, and your need to groom your own pets.

I pay $60 to get my two done, they need it bad, so they are going in next paycheck, I was just waiting for the weather to break because it is so cold out for short coats.

So $30 a dog, that would be a positive payout (however you will probably need to buy some tools and get insurance,)

Have you considered being a dog walker for people living in apartment complexes My son is in Florida and he has a dog and he pays this guy $20.00 a day to walk his dog and believe me this man doesn't even walk the dog for an hour.

But Goldie could never hold her pee for 12 hours a day So it is something he has to pay for. Down there they also have doggie hotels. $29.00 a day for the dogs to stay in a room of an old house and be walked None in our family like kennels Every time one of my dogs go to a kennel she ends up sick So we try to avoid that as much as possible. You see she is a really strick house broken dog. She has to be in a yard to do her business or walked. If not she holds herself until it makes her sick because she will not go in a concert run. It is hard to find a kennel that will walk a dog twice a day All they want to do is stick them in a run. Around here that kind of kennel is 15.00 I would pay more if I could find one that would walk her.

If I could trust someone I would love to just let her stay in her house and pay someone to come in and take her out a couple times a day to walk her while we are gone.

I bought a clipper kit w/ instructions & scissors in 1990 and trained myself to clip my toy poodle.

Is there an animal shelter nearby that you could volunteer and "shadow" an experience groomer?

Hmm, those are some great points I never thought of. I think I am going to call the school and see when the next course is offered.

Thanks for the ideas Mary Ann!

I had actually thought about dog walking, but I am not sure if anyone would want it done on the hours I can do (I work during the week 7-3). It may be something to look into since I have to walk my doggies anyways! Adding another dog to the mix wouldn't kill me (and would start to create references if I needed them!)

Do you remember where you bought the stuff? Is it good quality? I have no idea where to even start with this.

It was a brand name of clippers, I cannot remember the name, but I've seen them at Tractor Supply and even cheaper sets at Walmart.
