Sometimes you just got to change the way you do business. Life or the world makes you change. And then you realize that sometimes you are having BRAIN FARTS and you just can’t keep up anymore. That is what is going on around here. Since December, I have been changing the way I do business and I am dragging Poor Raymond along. He never likes change
First we got a notice from the Credit Union that they were lowering the interest they would be paying on our checking account from 4.01% to 3.25% that hurt. There went some of my snowflake money. Second , my upper teeth went bye bye so I had a choice come up with 5400.00 or do 2,400.00 that I never really thought would work. So I went shopping for another dentist. I found one that does custom teeth for people like me. At a price of 1675.00 Even though I had to pay my old dentist 690.00 for the work she had done. I still ended up a couple of hundred dollars less in debt. I had to find cheap money or use every bit of saving we have. At our age that is not a good thing. I am like an old car breaking down on a daily basics.
I called at least 6 different cards we have and not one was giving out cheap money except Citi. Our Citi Dividend card we use monthly for the 300.00 yearly dividends If I used their offer more snowflake money gone. In the last 4 months it seems that bill which I pay off each month had been going down It went from 1200.00 down to 900.00 and when I ask them what the pay off for February was they said 325.00. They were right we had only charged in food and gas and drug stores 325.00 for a whole month. I could not believe it myself. Anyway they sent me some checks Life of the loan checks I got 2500.00 to be on the safe side with a 75.00 fee. I have like 48.00 in the dividend part that I may never see.
To make some of the money back in interest at least for a few days anyway. I talked Raymond into changing his retirement check to the credit union. He fought me on that one. Monday the old account will be closed. So we are down to one simple checking account. We do have a dead checking account that goes with our mortgage payment but I really don’t count that one. I told Raymond I just could not keep up with all the money games to many BRAIN FARTS. When I was young I could keep up now the price is to high when you make a mistake..
We cleaned out the house of all credit cards, debt cards and membership cards. I cleaned out his wallet except for the credit union debt card NO CREDIT CARDS I cleaned out my wallet too.. So I don’t have to worry about the 12 debts each month the credit union requires for the checking account. I don’t have to do statements anymore and worry about paying things back to them cards. IT HAS ALL STOPPED AS OF NOW. I have five simple bills a month. I told Raymond if anything else happens it has to come out of saving. NO MORE BORROWING MONEY FOR ANYTHING.
I told him we have to stop stock pilling food. He took a couple of things out of the freezer that was already bad because they had been there so long THIS IS GOING TO STOP TOO.
We are buying by the week. No more coming in with 42 rolls of T-paper. And to my surprise, I have 100.00 left in my living money this week and we get paid again Tuesday night. First time that has happened in a long time. I do know sometimes the way you do business has to be changed. It is the wise person that knows when that time has come.

I think what you posted makes a lot of sense, Mary Ann.
Embracing change can be difficult, but change is the only thing that we can be certain of.

I always thought you were smart, and once again, you've proved it!

Yes, it is important to have goals. And things in our lives change. Just because the way we carry out those goals is different doesn't mean we have lapsed in our goals. Just changing with the times and what is thrown at us.
You are a smart lady too Norma. I only wish that you have just went bankrupt on the business and not a personal one. Even though I have never been a big believer in Bankruptcy I think you guys did the best thing for you and your family. Maybe you should have done it a little soon.
I know you will come out of this in great shape. I have faith in you.
Hugs and Love
Mary Ann
