My FIL just called to see if I wanted a TV from SIL and her current fiance. Over Christmas Eve the two of them were arguing over this TV. She said it was awful and full of spiderwebs and had a terrible picture and all kinds of stuff. He said it was "fine". It's an old 52". SIL complained that it was "20 years old" but I don't know if that was an exaggeration or not. Anyway, I asked FIL if it was the same one and he said yes, then proceeded to tell me how wonderful it was. So I asked why they were getting rid of it if it was so wonderful, and his answer was that they dropped a ton of money on a brand new ginormous plasma or lcd and it had been sitting at the store for weeks b/c they didn't have room until they got rid of the old one. They tried to sell it but couldn't.
But, no, we are not going to waste $30 worth of gas to go get a gigantic TV in the rain tonight. Nor would we waste a lovely afternoon going to get it so we could miss a few more lovely afternoons staring at it. (We have a 36" which is too-big-enough IMO). I just can't believe they are giving away one that works for one that ... works. Unbelievable!
And no offense to anyone with a huge TV. It's just not for us, but to listen to SIL literally cry about money and then to turn around and do this ... I don't know if I want to laugh or cry.

Don't laugh, we've got a 20 yr. old giant 61" in our basement den.

Its things like this that drive me batty!
My mom used to be like this. She would complain about not having any money, and then would go out and buy the most ridiculous things! She has gotten a lot
